365 days a year …
Bressanone is a mountain town that offers an extensive range of options for exploring the surroundings: on foot, by cable-car or on a mountain bike. The Alpine and Mediterranean climates blend perfectly, and the extraordinary variety offered by the landscape and flora leaves one breathless: idyllic towns, gentle slopes, gastronomic specialities, majestic Dolomites.
The historic centre of Bressanone, just a few steps from the Hotel Tallero, offers its visitors festivities, events, concerts and many shopping opportunities.
And winter is not less fascinating: the nearby ski area of Bressanone, the Plose, offers classic winter sports, as well as high altitude carving and snowboarding. Water sports lovers will enjoy themselves at Acquarena, a very modern aquatic centre with pools, slides, saunas, fitness facilities and …
Plose and Rodella
two mountains guarding the valley
Snow in the winter and excursions in the summer: this is the Plose, “house mountain” of Bressanone. With a spectacular view of the Dolomites, it is truly an inspirational place for those looking for easy trails, yet also for those who love the adrenaline rush from pure rock formations, for those who want to spend a few hours in total relaxation, as well as those who want to experience the thrill of a climb (or descent) on mountain bike.
Both during the “white” season, as well as the hot summer days, you can try the WoodyWalk starting from the cable car station in the valley. This is a resplendent walk along four kilometres, which takes visitors all the way to the Rossalm alpine hut. Refresh your spirit in the mountain breeze during the summer or immerse yourself in snow in the winter. Along the trail, you will find slides, statues and many other attractions immersed in the 360 degrees of enchanting panorama of the Pale Mountains, a.k.a. the Dolomites. Also, here the incline measures only 100 metres and so strollers can also be used here.
On the other side of the valley we find the Rodella mountain, which in summer offers mountain lovers the magnificent view of the Laghi Gelati (lit. Frozen Lakes). The hike takes about five hours, but it is not too difficult. Visitors then arrive by car to Scaleres (1466 m), from which the initially steep trail leads to the Laghi Gelati (1957 m). From here, you can climb to the Forcella San Lorenzo (2208 m), passing by the “Kühbergalm” alpine hut and then descend to the “Brugger Schupfe” hut (2000 m), to finally return to the valley following the trail to Caerna (1409 m).
Here, there is certainly much to offer climbing lovers: Bressanone and the surrounding areas are rich with rock climbing areas, where you can try short climbs. One of these is Fortezza: imagine a cliff over the lake, surrounded by the amazing Habsburg fortress , on the Forte Alto, the highest part of the castle, situated on a cliff bearing the same name. Facing east, and therefore very sunny, it offers eleven levels of difficulty, from 3+ for basic beginners, to 6c+ for the most expert.
In the wintertime, known as the “difficult” season for rock climbers, there is the brand new indoor climbing wall Vertikale. Situated just a few metres from Hotel Tallero, the wall is about 20 m tall and extends over 1600 m² of climbing surfaces, with about 200 different tracks.
A holiday on two wheels
Whether it is a comfortable trip on bicycle from the national border along Bolzano, a steep climb to reach the summits of the mountains, an adrenaline-filled descent over gravel roads, moped rides or downhill biking, Bressanone is an ideal destination for all lovers of two wheels.
To experience a thrilling high-altitude trip surrounded by the Odle mountains, visitors have the opportunity to reach the Plose mountain station by cable car at 2050 m (taking advantage of great deals with the BrixenCard offered by Hotel Tallero). From there, you can take advantage of all the varying trails leading to different chalets. More athletic visitors can enjoy an excursion around the Plose that lasts the whole day. And for an easier ride, there is always the option to rent an electric bicycle for guaranteed fun!
The relaxing shuttle
from the Market to the ski slopes
It’s just a short distance from the Christmas Market, as well as the ski slopes. Hotel Tallero is situated in the heart of winter tourism. Thanks to the free bus ride between the historic centre and the “house mountain”, and to the deals offered to visitors with the Brixen card, in just a few minutes you can zip from the hotel lounge to the ski slopes. Revel in your first contact with snow on the Plose. There are over 40 km of perfectly prepared slopes suitable for everyone: from the Trametsch, the longest black slope in South Tyrol, other black slopes (8 km), blue slopes (13km), red slopes (22 km), and loads of attractions for kids who can take their “first steps” on skis or snowboard thanks to the help of qualified instructors. For lovers of freestyle, the thrilling Funpark is available for everyone.
Moreover, sledge lovers can’t miss out on the RudiRun adventure, sprawling over 10.5 km making it the longest track in all of Europe.
Among the valley’s many lifts, all of which can be reached in a few minutes, guests can arrive at the Plan de Corones ski district, accessible from the nearby town of Brunico. It offers over 100 km of slopes and lifts and 30 friendly chalets. With its 2,275 m of height, it manages to satisfy all lovers of skiing and snowboarding.
The charm of the silent snow
Alone, in the silence of nature covered in a pure blanket of white, far from everyone and everything: now you can make this dream come true by renting a pair of snow shoes and hiking over the fresh snow. The valley in Bressanone offers excursions of all kinds; isolated trails far from ski lifts – all of which are well marked – such as the trail that leads to Bressanone through the Plose mountains, from Spinga to Stoanamandl, or from Rio di Pusteria, through Rodengo over the Giogo d’Asta (Astjoch): all of these itineraries offer a breathtaking panorama.
For slightly more experienced skiers, visitors can delight in the magic of alpine skiing. Highly praised – and just a short distance from Hotel Tallero – you can find the night-time trek which ascends the Trametsch black trail on the Plose: the trail takes you from the valley’s cable car station to Valcroce, over an incline of 1000 m. On the way back, the moonlit descent is unlike any other …
